Kimley-Horn Power Studies Engineer in Nashville, Tennessee

Overview

Kimley-Horn's Nashville, TN office is seeking an Electrical Engineer with 4+ years of experience to join their Electrical team! This is an in-office position.

Responsibilities

  • Support the power electrical team to analyze systems, create software models, and write reports for various projects e.g. commercial, industrial and generation projects

  • Assist with project design, specifications, and plans support

  • Review work with quality in mind to confirm compliance with Kimley-Horn quality standards

  • Studies performed may include (per candidate experience):

  • Arc Flash, Short Circuit, and Coordination studies using ETAP or SKM

  • Load Flow / Reactive Power Analysis

  • Thermal Ampacity studies using software like AmpCalc or CYMCAP

  • Grounding studies using WinIGS, CDEGS, or SKM Ground Mat

  • Transient studies using PSS/E, PSCAD, EMTP, or PSLF

  • Harmonic studies using ETAP or transient software

  • Relay setting development using SEL AcSELerator

  • Partner with the electrical team to create calculations and drawings for various project types

  • Continually gain knowledge in industry

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in an Electrical Engineering role

  • 1+ year of experience managing projects

  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) License (or ability to obtain within 12 months)

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Understanding of the National Electrical Code, National Electrical Safety Code, IEEE and ANSI Standards

  • Willingness to travel to support site visits and client meetings, as needed

  • Ability to work in a team; both collaborating with and mentoring junior staff

  • Preferred:

  • Experience in utility-scale PV, wind generation, energy storage, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, microgrid, substation, or data center designs

  • Experience in engineering project management

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD

  • Experience in power system analysis using SKM, ETAP, or equivalent

  • Experience in transient studies using PSCAD, EMTP-RV, or equivalent

  • Experience in lighting designs and photometrics using AGI32, or equivalent

  • Comfortable programming in Python or MATLAB#LI-AT1
