Kimley-Horn Power Studies Engineer in Atlanta, Georgia

Overview

Kimley-Horn'sAtlanta,GA office isseeking a Power Studies Engineerwith 4+ years of experience to join their Electrical team.With a focus on serving clients within thepower delivery andrenewable energy sectors, the Power Studies Engineer will act as a technical expert in the design, analysis, and optimization of electrical power systems. This is an in-office position.

Responsibilities

  • Support the power electrical team to analyze systems, create software models, and write reports for various projects e.g. commercial, industrial and generation projects

  • Assistwith project design, specifications, and plans support

  • Review workwith quality in mindtoconfirmcompliance withKimley-Hornquality standards

  • Studies performed may include (per candidateexperience):

  • Arc Flash, Short Circuit, and Coordination studies using ETAP or SKM

  • Load Flow / Reactive Power Analysis

  • Thermal Ampacity studiesusing software likeAmpCalcor CYMCAP

  • Grounding studies usingWinIGS,CDEGS,or SKM Ground Mat

  • Transient studies usingPSS/E, PSCAD,EMTP,or PSLF

  • Harmonicstudies using ETAP or transient software

  • Relaysetting development using SELAcSELerator

  • Partner withthe electrical team to createcalculations anddrawings for various project types

  • Continually gain knowledge in industry

Qualifications

  • 4+ years’ experience as an Electrical Engineer for an engineering firm or EPC

  • 1+ years' project management experience

  • EIT certification or path to move towards certification is preferred

  • CYMCAP, SKM, ETAP, EMTP-RV, PSS/E, PSCAD,WinIGS,or CDEGSexperiencepreferred

  • Understanding or willing to learn, the NEC 2020 and IEEE standards and keep up with emerging technologies

  • General understanding of engineering and energy systems

  • Load Flow,Coordination, Short Circuit, and Arc Flash studies basic theory andmethodology

  • Proficiencyusing Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (AutoCAD)

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office

  • Ability to work and manage several project teams concurrently

  • The ability to work independently or in a team environment effectively

  • The ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment
